Another week, another episode of For The Players: The PopCulturists PlayStation Podcast and another person complaining about gaming culture and how horrid it is…. Wait…. this person is IN the games industry? What?

An article by Jason Schreier for Kotaku has him discussing how game developers want to be more candid with gamers however they feel they can’t as the culture is too “toxic.
This is a common sentence but it is jarring to hear this from someone in the business. What is causing this toxicity? Players? Developers? The Media? Ryan and Josh discuss.

As always they take a look into the latest video games news along with the games coming to your PlayStation this week.

Tokyo Game Show 2018 has come and gone, and with PlayStation being a Japanese company you know they are going to have a conference.

As Ryan looked around the internet all he could find was outlandish predictions and expectations for the TGS conference. Now post conference, almost all of them were wrong. Completely wrong! So Ryan asks Josh “do gamers expect too much from conferences?”.

Of course the guys discuss the real announcements from the show (such as Zone of the Enders, Monster Hunter Worlds, and many more!).

Imagine it! A Grand Theft Auto movie. Wouldn’t it be magical?

Ryan and Josh thought exactly that. This week they guys take a look at a much overused topic of conversation but throw their own spin on it. Who will get cast? Who would direct? What OTHER games could make their way onto the big screen?

As always the big news of the week: South Park: The Fractured But Whole will hit Australia UNCENSORED and UNCUT, a new PSVR Bundle, Dates for the PlayStation event at Tokyo Game Show, heart-warming DLC coming to Shadow of War, PS Plus for September, and the bestselling PlayStation games in AUS.

With the release of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle around the corner and the announcement that Final Fantasy and Assassins Creed will be creating content together, it got Ryan and Josh thinking. What cross-overs do we truly want to see?

Will it be games of a similar vein coming together or two completely separate genres? A big brand mixing with a smaller one? The options are endless however the guys collect a handful for you. As always comment below with your cross-over picks.

Along with that is the news of the week!
More Overwatch news (as is tradition now apparently). Gwent is getting a beefy single player. Skyrim VR, Doom VFR, and Fallout VR get confirmed release dates (but may not be the best to play on PSVR). Along with some news from Gamescom.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg made this statement at a recent Investors Call: “Destiny is so engaging that the follow-on content is almost as important if not as important as the main game”.

This is an interesting statement to make. It seemed to hit Josh the wrong way this week and he decided to bring it up with Ryan and break down what he is saying.

Is he implying that DLC is important as it supplements a game? Or that it can be used to help repair a broken game? or is it important so the customer can get their monies worth?

Along with this Ryan and Josh take a look at the latest in PlayStation and gaming news, such as: Death Stranding has a small tech demo/tease, more Persona is on its way, EA merges Bioware Montreal and Motive, Paranormal Activity coming to PSVR, and more info on Stardew Valley multiplayer. And as always the best selling games of the week in Australia

Is it a noticeable difference? Or does it feel like an expansion?

Along with this the guys discuss the impending musical lawsuit with Fallout 4, the dates for the Destiny 2 beta are announced, Ni No Kuni 2 is delayed, and the best selling PlayStation games in Australia as made up by them (the official list wasn’t released).

We can’t be a community based PlayStation Podcast without a show made entirely with questions FROM THE PLAYERS!

With Ryan away on the usual For The Players recording day, he and Josh had no choice but to record a little earlier than usual.
Sadly that means no news and no new releases… however… an idea struck the dynamic duo…. LETS GET YOU INVOLVED!

We reached out to the PopC community through the Facebook Community Group and built a full show around their questions.
What began as PlayStation Questions became general games which then became a PopC AMA.

Big thank to EVERYONE that provided questions for this week. We truly appreciate it!

Doesn’t it just feel like Sony has dropped the ball on PlayStation VR?
It launched with some solid fanfare but has seemed to really slowed down. What is the future of PlayStation VR?

Well it certainly isn’t dead, that’s for sure! With a handful of impressive PSVR games announced at E3 2017 and with some impressive ports coming over from HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, the future is actually quite bright.

Ryan and Josh head into the studio again to discuss and debate the merits and future of the PSVR, while looking into the news of the week. AND as always answering YOUR questions in the segment, From The Players.

Have a question for the team? Comment below and they will discuss it on the next episode.

With just under 40 years combined #PlayStation gaming and close to 5 years in games coverage, Ryan and Josh felt that they would be capable of throwing their hats in the ring and join the greater PlayStation discussion. This new weekly show will allow us to discuss the ins and outs of Sony’s hardware, software, and relationships.

For many this comes as no surprise. Many were able to guess from the not so subtle tease and the known affinity Ryan and Josh have for the PlayStation brand what this project could have been.

It feels like every week ANOTHER video game gets delayed!

This week it was Middle Earth: Shadow of War, last week it was Red Dead Redemption 2, week before that Ace Combat 7! It felt like many of the big 2016 games were delayed into this year. Will this happen again? Are a heap of 2017 games making their way into 2018?

Ryan and Josh return with this weeks episode of For The Players: The PopCulturists’ PlayStation Podcast to talk about just that.
Are game delays a necessary evil that leads to better games? Or are games simply just being announced to early?

Along with this they discuss all the big PlayStation news of week like: more info from IO and Square Split, FF VII returning to interal development, the GOLD PS4, PS Plus for June 2017, and the top selling PlayStation games in Australia.
They also answer YOUR questions in From The Players.

The PS4 Pro was once the most powerful console, but with Xbox Scorpio on the horizon The PopCulturists ask: Where does Sony Stand?

It is no surprise that the Xbox Scorpio is on paper a beast of a console with its 8 teraflops (whatever that means). Does the Scorpio have a boost by coming out a year after the PS4 Pro? Or will it be stuck in the same mid-generation rut? Ryan, Josh, and special guest David, Social Media and PR Lead for The PopCulturists, sit and discuss.

They also chat about the news of the week such as Read Dead Redemption 2 gets delayed, Far Cry 5 has been announced, Tom Holland is Nathan Drake, and the Resident Evil movie franchise gets a reboot. Along with all the latest releases for the week.

Its awesome that PlayStation has exclusive deals with Activision, Rockstar, and EA…. right?

They appear to be excellent decisions for the PlayStation brand but how does it impact us, the players?

In this weeks For The Players, Ryan and Josh break down the pros and cons of these business deals to determine whether we get the short end of the stick.

Also they take a look at the news of the week, such as: Ubisoft announces Far Cry 5, Assassins Creed, and the release date for South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Solidus Snake passes away. And the best selling games in Australia.

Ryan and Josh also discuss what they have been playing, and throw in a sneaky Injustice 2 review.
